Rear hatch height issue on 2021 Odyssey LX

I have a 2021 Odyssey LX, I bought it used from my cousin. But now I'm just annoyed by how low the manual liftgate opens. I'm 5'10 and I keep bonking my head loading groceries. I checked for any adjustment stops or longer struts, but no luck so far. Has anyone found a workaround to get more clearance?

I experienced something similar with the liftgate on my Odyssey hitting my head. If you've got the power liftgate trim, there's actually a way to set the opening height manually. All you have to do is open it, adjust it to the height you prefer, and then hold the close button until you hear it beep twice. That'll save you from bumping your head every single time

Now, the LX doesn't come with a power liftgate, so there's no built-in way to adjust the height. However, some people choose to replace the struts with longer ones to get a bit more clearance. Just make sure you pick ones that are designed for your specific model to avoid messing up the mechanism

The thing with the struts is a good idea, but it comes with a slight problem. You're putting a lot more strain on the electrical stuff there. Sure, a bit more isn't a problem, but a lot more can be on the long run.

Have you try a simple DIY fix? Some people have used a small, strong rubber stopper or a piece of a tennis ball and secured it to the top of the liftgate arm to create an artificial stop. It can give you a little extra height by forcing the strut to extend just a bit more. It's a bit of a hack, but it could work until you find a better solution

I had the same issue on my '20 Odyssey LX, manual liftgates are tricky. Some folks swap in slightly stronger struts and install a bump stop spacer to limit how far it drops. It's not perfect, but it keeps your head safe
